The Idiocy of Words

I am slightly upset with the way we describe things. We live in a society in which the labels we put on beliefs are either positive or negative. For an example, people who are against abortion are pro-life, but people who are for abortion are not pro-death, they are pro-choice. Those who are against abortion would not want to be called anti-choice, or anti-rights.

Well, I was reading about a few of my favorite black metal bands who are more anti-christian than myself, and noticed that anti-christian sentiment is called Christophobia. This is offensive to me and if I was ever called a Christophobe on a serious level, I don't think I would be able to control my rage. People who are against Christianity and it's beliefs generally are not afraid of Christians, nor do they run in fear of the dogmas that are presented by the church. They just don't believe Christianity is true.

The same can be said for people who are against homosexuals. I believe in gay rights, but I know there are some out there who do not. People who don't think that gay people deserve to live like the rest of us are called Homophobic. I would say that most of them aren't afraid of gay people in general, like there are gangs of gay people who hang out in front of abandoned buildings and when homophobes see them, they cross to the other side of the street and flop-sweat as they walk for the next three blocks.

These words that have been made up to describe the belief that Christianity is wrong and homosexuality is against moral values, though I may feel different on both issues, are both offensive and seem to be created by the opposition for their own selfish benefit. Only a Christian would say that their enemy is a Christophobe, the person who is opposing them would never address themselves as such. Only a Homosexual or a supporter of homosexual rights would call someone a Homophobe, said person would never describe their belief in the sanctity of marriage as a fear of gay people or gay actions.

Labels are no loner used to describe something, but to invoke a certain feeling. I don't think that gay people or people who support gay rights would like being called Normophobes (I know I wouldn't) and I don't think Christians would like being called Intelligencophobes (right?).

1 eProp.

I'm very much for gay rights, but people who don't think homosexuals deserve rights are ignorant, not homophobic.

It's every human's goal in life to discredit the enemy.
